Gina Ortiz JonesAge: 38 Education: BA and MA, Economics, Boston University; MA, Global & International Studies, University of Kansas; Master of Military Art and Science, U.S. Army School of Advanced Military Studies Occupation: Candidate Political experience: 2018 Democratic candidate, TX-23 NoNoMy views on this public safety emergency are largely shaped by being a veteran. In order to serve in the U.S. Air Force as an intelligence officer, I underwent an extensive security background check and received annual weapons training. This was all to ensure I was in the right state-of-mind to handle a weapon and could safely do so. Therefore, I support universal background checks, closing loopholes to ensure those with a record of domestic violence are not able to access firearms, and a ban on assault weapons and high capacity magazines. As a first-generation American, I know that immigration strengthens our economy and contributes to our national security. Our country’s immigration policies should focus on tapping into our country’s potential, not forcing vulnerable communities into the shadows. I support a clean DREAM Act and the full reinstatement of DACA. We need to honor the promise we made to these young people who are a crucial part of our workforce, economy and communities, and I support ensuring they have a path to full citizenship. We cannot afford wasteful, ineffective projects like President Trump’s border wall while programs like Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid are constantly being threatenWe cannot afford wasteful, ineffective projects like President Trump’s border wall while programs like Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid are constantly being threatenAbsolutely not. As a veteran and national security expert, I understand the immediate and long-term effects on our national security if our military’s readiness - and that of our partners’ and allies’ - is degraded due to these needless diversions. Fort Bliss, one of the Army’s premier military installations, has had millions diverted from its military construction projects to fund the border barriers. We need to fund our military, not a wasteful, ineffective border wall. Democrat

Rosalinda “Rosey” Ramos Abuabara Age: 54 Education: Bachelors in Speech Communication Occupation: Practice Administrator Political experience: Political Activist On July 3, 2019, I was arrested for taking part in a nonviolent protest in Carrizo Springs, Texas. The Dimmit County Sheriff’s Office charged me with resisting arrest, interfering with an officer, and disorderly conduct. I was held for 24 hours, but the charges were soon dropped. Responded "N/A"In order to reduce gun violence, I favor gun legislation that would regulate the domestic trade of weapons of war. Additionally, I would like to close the gun show loophole and mandate background checks and 10-day cool-off periods for gun sales.I support comprehensive immigration reform that would allow immigrants viable and timely paths to citizenship. Refugees should be able to seek asylum in the U.S. and be welcomed. I also believe that DREAMERS, many of whom grew up entirely in the United States, are entitled to citizenship in the country they call home. I would cut federal spending for the military. Most military spending in the U.S. is not essential and would help reduce overall spending. Trump has resorted to using funds from the Defense Department in order to push his own agenda of building a wall. It is time to end the senseless spending on war and on human rights violations at our border.I support Medicare for all with public options. Everyone should be able to buy into a universal, single-payer Medicare system, and it should be affordable and beneficial for everyone to do so. No one should have to pay for health insurance only to be denied coverage. No one’s condition should deteriorate because they are unable to afford treatment. No one should lose their financial stability as a consequence of emergency medical costs. I support Medicare for all with public options.
